  As directed by the innovation-driven development strategy of China, the Laboratory has carried out fundamental researches on calculation and measurement of multiphase complex reaction systems and other researches on scientific issues and key technologies concerning thermal conversion and pollutant emission control of complex solid fuels and low-carbon energy use based on the disciplinary development trends in efficient and clean utilization and ultra-low emissions of fossil fuels, and clean utilization of waste energy, making significant breakthroughs in ultra-low emission technology of coal-fired generators, waste energy utilization and pollutant control.

  The Laboratory has also made satisfying results in scientific research and engineering application, and gained 6 awards of the three national major awards for recent five years: First Prize of State Technological Invention Award: development and application of key technologies in ultra-low emissions of coal-fired units (2017, Unit 1); National Science and Technology Progress Award for Innovation Teams: Clean Energy Utilization Innovation Team of Zhejiang University (2016); First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award: 600MW Supercritical Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler Technology Development, Research and Demonstration Project (2017, Unit 7); Second Prize of State Technological Invention Award: Key Technology and Application of Deep Low Temperature Regenerator Refrigeration (2014, Unit 1); 2 Second Prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award: key technologies for rotary multi-stage pyrolysis incineration of hazardous wastes and cooperative control of pollutants (2017, Unit 1) and sludge stirring type indirect thermal drying and integrated circulating fluidized bed clean incineration integration technology (2014, Unit 1). Meanwhile, the Laboratory has won 8 ministerial and provincial awards, including 5 first prizes (Unit 1) and 1 second prize (Unit 1).
  In addition, about thirty engineering application projects have passed ministerial and provincial identification and been well evaluated. For instance, the optimal configuration, catalytic clean combustion and industrial application of coal (second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award) has been praised as ^leading both at home and abroad ̄.
