On June 16, 2018, the 6th
International Conference on CO2 Emission Control and Utilization
was held in Hangzhou. The conference was jointly organized
by Zhejiang University and Columbia University. More than
200 experts and researchers from domestic and foreign countries
who major in carbon dioxide capture, storage and utilization
(CCUS) attended the meeting. Professor Geoff Stevens, academician
of the Australian academy of science technology and engineering,
Shuoyi Chen, director of high-tech center of MOST, Professor
Zhongyang Luo, director of the state key laboratory of clean
energy utilization, Professor Xiang Gao, dean of college of
energy engineering, Zhejiang university were invited to attend
the meeting. The conference lasted for 2 days (June 16 - June
17), 6 conference reports and 103 sub-sessions reports were
scheduled for the conference.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the co-chairmen
of the conference, Professor Zhongyang Luo of Zhejiang University
and Professor Alissa Park of Columbia University. Professor
Zhongyang Luo extended a warm welcome to the guests, and he
pointed out that the control and utilization of carbon dioxide
is an urgent issue, and hoped that the conference could promote
the technical exchanges in the field of global carbon dioxide
emission control and utilization.
After the opening ceremony, Professor Berend Smit from
lausanne university of technology and UC Berkely university
gave a conference report on the latest development of carbon
capture materials. Professor Xiaochun Li of Wuhan geotechnical
institute of Chinese academy of sciences presented a conference
report entitled "potential application of CO2 storage
and flooding technology in four major industries in China".
Professor Alissa Park of Columbia University presented the
conference report on the work of carbon capture and transformation.
Professor Mengxiang Fang of Zhejiang University gave a conference
report entitled "progress of CO2 chemical absorption
After the conference report, the topics like solid adsorbent
technology, liquid absorbent technology, carbon dioxide mineralization
and utilization technology, oxygen-enriched combustion technology
were discussed among experts. On the afternoon of June 16,
the symposium of National Key R&D Program ＾CCUS￣ was held
by Professor Zhongyang Luo and Professor Peixue Jiang. Professor
Xinbin Ma reported on the basic information of the project,
the implementation plan and the research progress. Then, the
leaders of 11 sub-projects reported the sub-project overview
and project implementation plan in detail respectively. This
is the first time project CCUS to show and communicate in
the form of venue. This will play a positive role in promoting
academic exchanges in CCUS field and showing China's contribution
in combating climate change on the international stage.
On the afternoon of June 17, the panel discussion (Topic:
Current Challenges and Future of CCUS) was held by Prof. Tao
Wang. Dr. Alexander van der Made of Royal Dutch Shell, Dr.
Colin McCormick of Valence Strategic, Prof. Paul Feron of
CSIRO, Prof. Chunshan Song of Pennsylvania State University,
Prof. Bo Peng of China University of Petroleum and Prof. Mengxiang
Fang of Zhejiang University joined the discussion.
In the report session of the conference on the afternoon
of 17th, Geoff Stevens, academician of the Australian academy
of science technology and Engineering, made the conference
report entitled "Global Warming and what you can do about
it: A Chemical Engineering Perspective". Dr. David Nevicato
of TOTAL presented a conference report on the development
of total in the CCUS field. Subsequently, the co-chairmen
of the conference, professor Alissa Park and professor Zhongyang
Luo respectively reviewed the conference and made enthusiastic
summaries, and thanked the participants for their strong support.
The conference was co-hosted by institute of energy research
of Zhejiang province, institute of engineering thermal physics
of Zhejiang province. And the conference was sponsored by
TOTAL, Xinjiang Donghua petroleum technology co., LTD and
Henan Huanyu petrochemical equipment technology co., LTD.
The successful holding of the conference has shown advanced
achievements of our country in CCUS advanced materials, equipment
and demonstration projects, promoted academic exchanges in
CCUS field and will certainly play a positive role in promoting
CCUS development and combating climate change globally.
